Twin Cities Assembly Plant Bids Adieu to the Ford Ranger

There have been 6,657,881 Ford Rangers built since 1982, but weak sales killed the line last year. They peaked in 1999 with around 350,000 sold, but in recent years that number has been well-under 100,000, barely reaching 50,000 some years. Much can be attributed to improved fuel efficiency in larger trucks, a trait that made the ranger and other compact trucks popular in the past. With full size pickups having as good if not better gas mileage today than compacts of the past, their usefulness is fading. This video produced from footage of the last day of the Ranger at the Twin Cities plant in St. Paul, MN , shoes the passion and regret of the crew that has been building them, many of whom have been involved for three decades.
